For timbers which are oily by nature, such as some species of Eucalypt, Kwila/Merbau and Rosewood etc, it is recommended that the timber's s-410urface be wiped over with a solvent such as citrus turpentine to remove any oil present, before applying Polyx Oil.
Polyx Oils are based on natural oils and waxes, which penetrate deeply into the surface to enhance and maintain beauty and elasticity. As durable as polyurethane, and far easier to repair when scratched or worn down. Polyx Oil, once fully cured, will not crack, flake, peel, blister or water mark and is stain resistant against wine, beer, cola, coffee, tea, fruit juices, milk and water.
Easy to apply, with 2 thin coats being applied 12 - 24 hours apart. Sanding in between coats is generally not necessary. Excellent coverage rate of approximately 24 square metres per litre. The preferred method of application is by good quality bristle brush. OSMO's floor brush applicators are ideal. A low nap micro fibre roller may also be used. Please read the data sheet for details.
Easy to maintain with any plant based soap such as OSMO's Wash and Care for damp mopping, and OSMO's Liquid Wax Cleaner for buffing the timber when needed.
PolyX Rapid
A faster drying, Hardwax Oil finish for interior wooden floors and furniture for use in winter and colder climates. Not recommended for use in warm weather.
Osmo Polyx®-Oil Rapid is a faster drying version of the normal Polyx®-Oil. It is available as a clear finish in 2 sheen levels: Satin (3232) and Matt (3262) plus the new transparent white satin finish (3240).
Normal Polyx®-Oil would generally be used during the warmer summer months, and is touch dry in approximately 8-10 hours. The Rapid Polyx®-Oil should not be used where the ambient temperature is above 8 degrees C. It should only be used in cold, winter conditions where there is snow or frost etc, or because of the cold temperature, curing time may be an issue. Generally, the Rapid Polyx®-Oil will cure faster, with 2 coats able to be applied on the same day. The finish for normal Polyx®-Oil and Rapid Polyx®-Oil is identical.
The coverage rate of Polyx®-Oil Rapid is exceptional at around 24 square metres per litre. To understand how the Osmo system works, please click on the video tab on this page.

Easy to apply, with 2 thin coats recommended. The second coat should be applied only when the first coat has dried. Sanding in between coats is generally not necessary. Application can be by roller or brush. If using a brush, ensure it is a new, good quality bristle brush. (Osmo's 150mm or 220mm floor brush is ideal). If using a roller, make sure the sleeve is micro fibre with a nap of no more than 5mm. Care should be taken to limit the amount of oil held in the roller, otherwise over application can result.

CARING FOR FURNITURE FINISHED WITH OSMO POLYX OIL
In a commercial situation, timber furniture such as tables, chairs. Bench tops etc which have been correctly coated with Osmo finishes are automatically water and dirt resistant. However, the surfaces will need to be maintained on an on-going basis. The degree of maintenance depends upon the degree of usage.
Damp cleaning:
For frequent cleaning, we recommend using Osmo Spray Cleaner, which is a pre mixed solution in a ready to use 500ml trigger pack. The solution contains soaps based on natural plant oils. The ingredients are water soluble and prevent streaking and layer build up. Especially mild on skin, the solution is biodegradable, and is free from dyes, solvents and emissions. The surface remains food safe. Use as often as required.
Avoid using regular household or harsh chemical detergents, as these are designed to dissolve grease and oil, and over time, will break down the Osmo finished surface.
Rejuvenation:
Should the furniture become faded or dull, after continual usage or incorrect maintenance over time, it may need some form of rejuvenation. In a commercial situation, this rejuvenation could be weekly, monthly or whenever it is considered necessary. In most cases, the use of Osmo’s Liquid Wax Cleaner Spray will be all that is required. Use the spray sparingly. Apply an even, thin coat over the whole area, and then buff the timber
If the timber has a stubborn stain, use a fine white scotchbrite abrasive pad to remove. Alternatively, fine grade steel wool could be used. Once the stain has been removed, apply a thin coat of wax spray and buff the timber.
For areas which are scratched or badly worn, the timber will need sanding to remove the scratches, and another coat of Osmo Polyx Oil applied. We recommend this level of maintenance is carried out by a professional.
Both the Spray Cleaner and Liquid Wax Spray are in ready to use packs. For commercial situations, Osmo’s Wash and Care concentrate can be diluted with water and used to refill the Spray Cleaner trigger pack. Wash and Care is available in 1 and 5 litre containers. Similarly, the Liquid Wax Cleaner is available in 500 ml and 1 litre cans of concentrate. The concentrate is applied directly to the timber by cloth straight from the can.
